Milan darling, Milan......My highlights of MFW A/W '11

I always feel that Milan Fashion Week always offers something different to the shows in New York, London and Paris. There is a certain feel about the collections that are shown in the Milan every season. They have an air of glamour, luxury, rich colours and textures draped off the models bodies and this season proved no difference. From the comfort of my London apartment (sadly Milan and my finances don't match up very well!) I watched as many of the shows as I could and felt there were a few fashion houses and designers that just made my jaw drop...

Gucci
First show of the week to grab my attention was Frida Giannini's A/W collection, which gave off a very sexy 70's feel with bold use of colour. Emerald green, scarlet red, mustard, plum and a beautiful shade of bright turquoise blue.. and a host of other colours mixed with each other in unusual combinations to give a modern glamorous twist. I liked the sheer pussy-bow blouses teamed with flared trousers and skirts nipped in at the waist, not sure if I would wear col-lots though? Each outfit was accessories were keeping with the 70's era, with trilby hats, structured handbags, fur shawls .. it is a very confident women that would wear this collection.
Dolce & Gabanna
I loved the play on the masculine/feminine vibe of the Dolce and Gabanna show. The use of Double breasted jackets, flat ties, brogues and braces were ever present though at the same time beautiful models glided down the runway in sexy dresses clinched in at the waist with a thin belt (and what looked like a coin purse).... sequinned trousers teamed with masculine tailored blazers looked wonderful... have to say Chanel Iman looked great in a sparkling pink sheath dress with a mannish double breasted jacket, silver brogues and a pork pie hat perched on the back of her head. Also loved the use of stars.. this was done a few years ago and I remember Kate Moss loving wearing the trend. Maybe she will do it again?
Versace
Have to say I thought the it was a really brilliant collection. Military jackets with gold button detail teamed up with just above the knee length skirts caught my eye and would be something I will keep in mind for the fall. Donatella also showed elegant Oscar worthy chiffon gown adorned in navy, black, white or yellow feathers. Though the dress that I think many saw as being a show stopper was a glittery silver gown worn by model Arizona Muse. Just a feminine, sexy, modern collection from Donatella.
